Every Blood donation will raise money for ADA REGIONAL UNITED WAY. First-time blood donors generate $100 in funding, and returning donors generate $15 per blood donation. What are Platelets?
Platelets are tiny, blood cell fragments that are vital for clotting and healing.
Why should people donate platelets?
Every 15 seconds, someone in the US needs platelets. Platelets are crucial for cancer, surgery, and trauma patients. If there are no platelets, a patient's outcome is at risk. Your platelets could be the thing that saves their life! There is a constant platelet shortage. Platelet donations expire much faster than other blood components, with a shelf life of about 5-7 days, while red blood cells (standard donation) can be stored for up to 42 days.
How do you prepare for your platelet donation?
Eat well and hydrate before your appointment. Expect the process to take around 2 hours. It is well worth it! The OBI team will make sure you're eligible to donate.
