'Seats for Life' Program Continues

As a specially funded project continuing through fall 2017, Ada Regional United Way has agreed to continue The Seats for Life program to provide car seats, inspection and replacement of damaged car seats for area children.

Betty Weber, who retired from the Pontotoc County Health Department in May 2016, will continue to lead ARUW’s Seats for Life program in the Ada area.

One of the area's only certified car seat installers for 22 years, Ada's own Betty Weber was honored recently with the Rural Area Award at the 2016 Safe Kids Coalition in Oklahoma City for her work with ARUW's Seats for Life Program.

One of the area’s only certified car seat installers for 22 years, Weber recently received the Rural Area Award for her work with ARUW’s Seats for Life program.

Weber was honored over all other rural police, firemen and hospitals in the area at this year’s statewide Safe Kids Coalition meeting in Oklahoma City, receiving the “Rural Area Award” for the Seats for Life program.

ARUW’s Seats for Life program is unique among the more than 1,000 certified car seat installer programs throughout Oklahoma, because it meets a need for Pontotoc County families who require car seat replacements because of damage, expiration or increasing weight and height constraints.

Weber, who has been a certified car seat installer for 22 years, said, “I could put in car seats eight hours a day. The demand is that great.”

Motor vehicle crashes are still the leading cause of death of children in the United States. Even though most parents install child safety seats in their vehicles, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has estimated eight out of 10 child safety seats are improperly installed.
